What city do you live in? What neighborhood?

I live on a 22,000 acre cattle station, "Yarralee" which is located in the Upper Hunter region of New South Wales, Australia, near the small rural village of Cassilis, population 100.

What are some adjectives that describe your neighborhood?

rural, country, Australia, station, scenic, outback, blue collar, cowboy, cattle, horses, sheep, relaxed

How long have you lived there, and what brought you there?

I moved to Yarralee with my husband 5 years ago when he accepted an overseers position on the station. Driving onto the property for the first time was like arriving at my version of Heaven.

What is your favorite thing about this place? Your least favorite?

I love the relaxed nature of the area, the ecletic mix of people who inhabit it and the breathtakingly beautiful scenery. The only downside is the climate - for Australia "Yarralee" is very cold, reaching as low as -9 in the winter, with snow, sleet and ice, very beautiful out the window, not so nice to be out in!

Do you feel that you belong there?

"Yarralee" has felt like home since I arrived. The valley contains a cluster of farm houses, cottages and outbuildings, although we are 30km from the nearest village, the 8 families that live and work on the station make for a close knit community that is a joy to be part of.

What is the most common misconception about where you live?

Many people think that the Australia outback is all flat and covered in desert, but my little piece of Australian Heaven is forested, with crystal clear streams running through lush green grass in valleys sided by steep mountains.

What is a special fact about your city that you have to live there to know?

During the '80's a movie called "The Call of the High Country" was filmed in one of the back paddocks. The hut they purpose built for the movie is still there and regularly used for camping.

What aspect of your city do you secretly love?

Not that I would often say it out loud, but I love the rain at Yarralee, the cool, refreshing summer rains, the cold and icy winter rains that sting your face. I love to ride my horses through the rain, face burning, nose red, fingers numb, wind whipping through my hair - every fibre of my being alive with sensation. I love snuggling up under a blanket with a good book and a hot chocolate watching the rains washing my world clean. The sound of rain on a hot tin roof and the smell of grass just before a summer storm arrives. Yes, I do love the rains of Yarralee

Anything else you'd like to add?

Whether strolling by the crystal clear streams and rivers in the valleys, enjoying unbroken vista's from high mountain tops, or just taking part in everyday life on an Australian cattle property, Yarralee really is perfection, my little slice of Heaven on earth.
