For more than 200 years, the village of Tai-O was an important fishing port. Until about 50 years ago, there was also more than 100 acres of salt fields here & much of the town as built along the top of the main salt field seawall. Tai-O is famous for the many families that live in huts built on stilts over the water in the harbor (this style of building dates back to 19th century)
