String Theory Expands!

Wishbones from String Theory Continuum series

Begun in October 2008 as an experiment, my series The String Theory Continuum, featuring neon continues. This year as I visited family in California and Florida, I looked for the time and appropriate neon-filled neighborhoods in which to to shoot. For now wherever I travel, the series will expand.

Red is a color that excites even wee babies so I look for neon signs featuring all shades plus anything I have not already played with before. My in-camera techniques have also evolved over the years. For me, changing things, keeping it always a little different and devotion are the two main keys to persisting with a long-term series.

I love this series--Funny, I don't think to do this until the holidays, when the lighting almosts suggests to do so.

Anyone thinks this is easy to achieve ought to give it a try. When I was in Chicago in July, I gave it a shot. Rule #1, toss out arrogance because this is an exercise in humility. Though fabulous neon abounds in Chi Town, and though I tried more than a little, mine all ended up looking like Silly String Continuum. Michele with one 'L', I am humbled in your presence. Mah-velous dahling.

An amazing article – and even more amazing images. I have long been fascinated by your work. I have utterly no idea how you do it, but I am stunned by the variety of images. Each has its own character, its own personality, its own mood. And each is delightful in its own right. Yet, together, they form a whole that is unmatchable. And I couldn't agree more with Bailey; it's humbling. Kudos. And naturally, my vote.
