Our journey on the Bernina Express begins at a town called TIRANO on the Italian Swiss border [Tirano (Lombard: Tiràn) is a town in Valtellina, located in the province of Sondrio, Northern Italy. It has about 9,044 inhabitants and is adjacent to the Switzerland-Italy boundary. The river Adda flows through the town.] Tirano is in the VALTELLINA valley a major wine growing area in northern Italy. We leave the station in Tirano for the 2hr. journey through the alps . Climbing steadily up to a height of almost 6000 ft above sea level. Along the journey you pass through many villages as you go. The train runs along side the main road route and you can see the cars -wagons and other vehicles traveling along with you. As for the scenery IT IS ABSOLUTELY BREATH TAKING.As you can see from the pictures there are many many beautiful vista's to see and capture. It is truly a journey worth taking as we have done so .Once in the summer and now in the winter.as you climb you can see skiers sking or skiing alongside the trainas you get close to ST. MORITZ. As i say it is a journey worth taking. The EXPERIENCE is unbelievable.
