Boxing, hockey fighting, street fighting, and of course, the new ultimate fighting which combines boxing, the martial arts and wrestling (the real kind). it seems to be one of those human nature enigmas that makes people want to watch one human being destroyed by another. However, fighting in it's many forms is very exciting to watch for many people.
The birthplace of boxing as a sport may be its acceptance by the ancient Greeks as an Olympic game as early as 688 BC. Boxing evolved from 16th to 18th century prizefights, largely in Great Britain, to the forerunner of modern boxing in the mid 19th century, again initially in Great Britain and later in the United States.
In 2004, ESPN ranked boxing the most difficult sport in the world.
Love it or hate it, pugilism in its many forms is here to stay!
