Scenes from A Southern Plantation

A Quiet, Simple Life

Poplar Grove Plantation, one of the oldest existing peanut plantations in North Carolina, is listed on the National Register of Historic Homes. Located in Scotts Hill, North Carolina, you can tour the buildings, gardens, livestock and see examples of period crafts like blacksmithing and basket weaving. The grounds on a late summer day could not be a more enjoyable stroll. Much thanks to Mike the blacksmith and his two apprentices for allowing me to watch as they worked.
