For three years I spend a lot of time with amazing Leny Boeken (1922-2012), a little, beautiful woman: survivor of WWII, hiding at several places in the Netherlands and came back from Auschwitz, the only one from her family. She allowed me to go with her into her life; hairdresser, doctor, her shop that se run with her son and granddaughter, to memorial services, schools where she spoke about her life with student, to Poland visiting all the camps and where too she told her story to visitors. These three years have changed my life; she (and all my reading about WWII) gave me a permanent feeling of gratitude for our freedom, my family, my healthy parents, kids, sisters, food, holidays, clothes, warm blankets and showers, dinners together with friends, anything!
