Tunnel Vision Through A Lens Hood
19 Feb 2014
When I began this series I had no idea what I would shoot for the tunnel vision challenge...and then it hit me...I love bird photography and why not experiment with shooting through a lens hood propped on a tripod to create a tunnel effect around the birds.
I have shot many bird pictures through our window but had never used a lens hood apart from the camera lens...so this was new for me. Some pictures turned out and some did not. The tricky part was to get the birds to stay long enough in one spot to pose in that circular confinement produced by the lens hood.
I mostly used flash to create a soft effect of a ring around the bird and was pleased that the hood deflected the flash so that it did not glare on the window.....I normally do not use flash through the window, but it seemed to work when shooting through the lens hood with manual focus.
I probably never would have thought of using a lens hood off from the camera if the tunnel theme wasn't offered to us .. I am thankful for the challenges and themes that allow us to explore a different way of doing things and it was fun.
