From Sabres to Satellites

A Visit to Fort Huachuca

Fort Huachuca, located in the Huachuca Mountains, next to the town of Sierra Vista, Arizona was established in 1877 as a product of the Indian Wars. The soldiers there in the late 1800s tangled with renegade Apache and the likes of Geronimo. In 1913 it was the home of the famed Buffalo Soldiers. Still a very active fort whose motto is: From Sabres to Satellites is now home to the US Army Intelligence Center and Army Military Auxiliary Radio System. As many as 18,000 people are on post during the peak working hours of 0700 and 1600 on weekdays, making it one of the busiest Army installations in the US.
