An obsession with darkness and light
By Brendan Baker
1 January 2008
I suppose each photographer eventually develops a style of their own. Awhile ago I started noticing I was gravitating to dark foregrounds framing isolated backlit scenes. These were the scenes that captured me to drop what I was doing and fire off 30 shots before letting me go about my day. I'm not sure what emotional response this triggers for me, but it's clearly there somewhere.
Like many, I'm not always sure when I'm creating my own style, and when I'm playing it safe with a strategy I know well. So I'm trying to expand beyond this. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. But as I consciously branch out, I figured I'd highlight a few of my favorites clashes between dark and light.
