Back to The Island of Doctor Moreau

Friday night in the New York City. I just had a shrimp filled diner at Bubba Gump's restaurant on Times Square and I decided that instead of taking a cab or subway train I would be walking home by using the excess energy that the meal had given me and give my body a bit of a work out. It is funny that everybody seems to focus on shooting photographs during the day because of the obvious, the right light and visibility of subjects, but sometimes and in my case many times the night is the time to shoot some out of the ordinary shots.

After having walked many blocks I reached Park Avenue and I suddenly noticed a weird installation of aquariums filled with decapitated sheep and other lab and hospital installed stuff. Now, I am not your average horror freak but this presentation attracted me into the building (a multinational pharmaceutical giant's American HQ). Inside I was not as much shocked but amazed by the installation and even though it was bizarre it was also in my eyes a very pure form of art. The way the headless sheep were meticulously displayed in long rows of wheeled aquariums that usually display the finned kind of creatures that live in water. Also shown were catheters that had been installed into the aquarium and seemed to add a weird additional sensation to the installation. Not for the faint hearted though. It reminded me of the horror movie The Island of Doctor Moreau's. A welcome change to the usual street stuff :).

As Ferris Bueler once said "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it," And no it wasn't a Republican controlled GOP gathering or MIT prank. Have a good weekend all and hope you will get some inspiration this weekend.
