That man on the street

Cabin Anthony

I've found myself driving by Luquillo, Dorado, Rio Grande, Aguadilla & Mayaguez...from one side of the Puerto Rico island to the other. And for the past four years I've seen this man pushing around in a shopping cart a cross with some messages, that I must say, change constantly...all through the 100 x 35 island.

I've always felt an urge to stop and take his picture. The day finally arrived as he was sitting close to my hometown.

I approached him, it was about to start raining, I said "Excuse me sir", three different times. No answer. He appeared to have headphones on, although I didn't hear no music. I offered him a poncho, some food. He raised his head and stared far away as if nobody was there.

Days later as I drove by he was lifting "weights" with construction blocks, probably the most memorable mental picture that I have of him as of today. A shame I couldn't snap that one.
