Jerusalem's street signs

The street, souk or other place signs in Jerusalem are in three languages - Hebrew, Arabic and English. The signs are often works of art in themselves. The older signs (especially in the Old city) are tiled, and sometimes bear the scares of past conflicts (such as bullet holes) or present political and religious enmity - many of the Arabic components of signs in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City are painted over or have stickers obscuring the writing. There are also newer, blue signs which are not as beautiful, and which often are placed over the older sign.
The signs are just one small dimension of one of the word's most intriguing, beautiful and certainly very photogenic cities. But they appealed to me - for their beauty, and the way they so simply evoke the city's history and reflect its ongoing tragedy.
