Natural Light

As you may know I've been playing around recently with black and white self portraits. Still I'm endeared with the lens as a different kind of mirror. I'm seeing myself from a different point of view. I tantalise the viewfinder as if it were a lover discovering me. I'm becoming more aware of my own form. It's a journey of self discovery and an artistic challenge as well. One I've decided to share.

Unlike Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres "Grande Odalisque" I do not possess an extra vertebrae, nor am I a concubine (the meaning of the French word odalisque. I am however grande! I and enjoying exploring the larger form in a photographic form and I believe as photographers our eternal challenge is to capture the beauty in whichever form we place before our cameras. Half Nekkid Thursday (HNT) is my chosen vessel for such a challenge, to artistically portray the larger human form. What better point to begin than with my own form. I am also enjoying the technical challenge of composition and focus while using a timer.

A friend of mine has a blog and participates in a blog phenomenon called HNT (Half Nekkid Thursday). HNT is designed to be a weekly post of a self portrait in semi-nude form. For most this is a sensual exercise. For many it is also an expression of art. I propose to post my HNT here, with adherence to JPG Magazine's photo guidelines.

Here's my challenge: join me! Discover yourself in front of your own lens. Be brave, be daring and most of all be artistic and creative. I have posted a link beneath my photograph today. It leads to the initiator of the HNT phenomenon where he explains his intent and how it works. Be aware, as you work your way through the links in each HNT Thursday's comments found through the 'be next' door that some images are not safe for work! (nsfw).

Enjoy! And won't you join me? Post your link in the same place and game on!
