Moon Glow

The moon is fascinating. People worship it, tell stories that are passed on throught generations, romance their partners under it and develope creatures who live by it. But when the moon shows its self in an unsual way, we mostly just stare and wonder in awe. The moon shows us a wonderful spectrum of color and light. On this particular night the moon was a brilliant orange that lured me in and begged me to capture its essence, the reflection dancing on the water in the still night.

There were ozone level warnings...the air was thick and muggy, the plant life curling and withering desperate for a needed shower, yet the moon shone full in a wonderous shroud of orange. Big, beautiful, a wonder to behold.

The moon can have an orange color at any time of the year. Sometimes the moon appears orange even when it's directly overhead. This occurs when there's a lot of dust, smoke, or pollution in the atmosphere. The size of those particles will determine the type of color you will see.

Many names have been given to the moon.modern day July moon is the "Buck Moon" During Colonial America it was the "Summer Moon" The Chinese refer to it as"Hungry Ghost Moon" Some Indian names; Cherokee "Ripe Corn Moon", Choctaw "Crane Moon", Dakotah Sioux "Moon of the Middle Summer". Celtic refer to it as "Moon of Claiming". In English Medieval times "Mead Moon", To Neo Pagan it is the "Rose Moon"

No matter its name or color the moon holds a wonder, sometimes fear, in those who dare to experience its mystical power for without the moon lighting our way the night can be dark and lonely.
