Food Photo Used For Scientific Study

Curried Lamb Over Coconut Rice

When I photographed my favorite home cooked meal, curried lamb over coconut rice, I did so to participate in the JPG Magazine photo challenge, "Get Cookin'". After it was not picked as one of the finalists, I figured that the best that would ever come of it would be inclusion in a recipe book. Which is why I was very surprised to find an email in my inbox asking permission to use it in a research study on weight gain and obesity.

Dawnielle Grosshans, a professional research assistant in the University of Colorado Denver's Division of Endocrinology, is studying how the brain responds to over- and under-eating. The study is being done to see if people who are at risk for weight gain and obesity have a different brain response to eating and food images than thin people who seem to be resistant to weight gain and obesity. In this study she will evaluate how over- and under-eating for one day changes the brain's response to food images and one's behaviors toward food intake.

Being a science geek myself, I was more than happy to donate my image to her research. I wish her luck and hope that my photo can help science shed new light on our problem of obesity. Dawnielle may be contacted at dawnielle.grosshans@ucdenver.edu if anyone has questions about the study or scrumptious food photos to donate to the cause.
