Metaphorical mingling of two streams changed the religious landscape of Indian sub-continent over the period of 200 years between 1300 CE to 1500 CE. The cross-pollination between bhagti and sufi movement. One sweeping swaths of land coming from west, the other born right here in heartland of India.
Nizamuddin marks that beginning, the beginning of spread of sufism in India. He took the teachings of famous sufi poet and thinker Farid Ganj-e-shakar. He walked towards plains of northern india which was already fertile with ideas sprouted in form buddhism and jainism. He with his signular message of 'love for god' started a massive chain of events which brought significant changes which saw its crescent in form of 15th century religious, cultural as well as political discourse in India. A discourse marked by tolerance towards various religious/cultural streams.
He became the guide for many who spread the same message of love and tolerance. Delhi is where is stayed all his life and died here.
Delhi still reverberates with his message through Khusro's qawalis, his beloved disciple.
