Rust Is Beautiful

Out amid the scrub brush 60 miles east of San Diego, not too far from the Mexican border, is a rescue mission for old trucks. The Motor Transport Museum in Campo has a lofty purpose and a funky reality.
It's a home for the preservation of vintage vehicles and other industrial devices. Here, inside an old mill, you can see some fully restored trucks as well as a meticulous restoration in progress.
But it's also a final resting place for scores of old motor vehicles. Outside, baking under the relentless high desert sun, you will find row upon row of Macks, REOs, Internationals, Fords, GMs, and more. Some look like they still could be in working order, others are mere skeletons. All have the rich patina of age.
