Open House New York With Angels and Accordions

The Accordions and The Angel

Open House New York (OHNY) is a cultural organization in New York City, USA, that "hosts year-round educational programs celebrating New York. The 6th annual open house on the weekend of October 4–5, 2008, featured many sites in the five boroughs of New York City, with guided tours music and dance performances. You can explore New York City's hidden places and other OHNY programs for adults and children.

I spent the Saturday at the historic Greenwood Cemetery with its picturesque 478 acres of rolling green hills. There are several famous monuments and sculpture located throughout the cemetery.

Angels and Accordions was the featured presentation of Open House New York at the Greenwood cemetery. This unique event, choreographed by Martha Bowers of Dance Theatre Etcetera features original music composed by Guy Klucevsek and Bob Goldberg.

Alex Heilner designed a visual installation inside a Catacomb. As I walked into the Catacomb I can hear the music from accordions and as I approach closer there were men and women behind doors softly striking little brass and silver bells. Several tombs at the cemetery were open to the public.

The event was appropriate for all ages and admission was free.

The motto for Greenwood cemetery is "Visit While You Can Still Walk".

A special note: The verses, which describe the photos, are my own creativity.
