What city do you live in? What neighborhood?
I live in SE Huntsville; close to downtown attractions, within walking distance to great restraunts, shopping and grocery stores. The Fresh Market opened not too long ago, offering the best variety of fresh produce and meats you can find in the city, and it's only a few blocks from my apartment. There are parks and playgrounds every few miles and Monte Sano State Park which is full of biking/hiking trails and camping/cabin rentals. There is also an Observatory up there with 4-5 large telescopes for public use.
What are some adjectives that describe your neighborhood?
middle-class; middle-aged; divorced/single; noisy, next to a hospital; convienient;
How long have you lived there, and what brought you there?
I have lived here for 3 years. I came to Huntsville during college to work at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center/Space Camp/Aviation Challenge. After I graduated, I came back in search of the perfect Aerospace Engineering job. I found a job after about 9 months of searching.
What is your favorite thing about this place? Your least favorite?
My favorite places are: the Space and Rocket Center - I can go here and walk around and be re-inspired, it helps me remember why I do what I do; Monte Sano - beautiful trails and views of the Tennessee Valley; Rosie's Mexican Cantina - great food and outdoor patio; Bridgestreet - new, outdoor shopping venue that features high end stores; Ketchup - restraunt/bar in Bridgestreet, featuring DJPaulieG; Monoco Theatres - Prive Experience allows 21 and up to sit in large leather rockers and access the bar before/during/after the movie
Do you feel that you belong there?
No; Huntsville seems to be catered to the middle-aged, married with children crowd. I'm much younger than 99% of my coworkers, which makes work frustrating sometimes. Being young and unmarried, there aren't many options for dating and nightlife; although it's getting better.
What is the most common misconception about where you live?
That everyone is a redneck. I'll admit, there are a few around town, but Huntsville and Redstone Arsenal are both very technical places. We host the most PhDs per capita in the country. NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center which houses the Mission Control for all Science Payloads aboard the Space Shuttles and the International Space Station is in Huntsville. Also, large liquid and solid rocket engines are tested here.
What is a special fact about your city that you have to live there to know?
Also known as "The Rocket City"
What aspect of your city do you secretly love?
The Magnolia Trees and the rockets at intersections all over town.

Megan--I joined just because I wanted to tell you what a good job you did describing Huntsville in your first sentence. Wish you loved living here more! Maybe you can go to the "Toast of Huntsville" (wine, beer & martini tasting) on Nov. 6th and meet some other singles?
Good luck! -
