Autumn at the lake
By Steve Damascus

Beck Lake, Glenview Illinois. It could be any lake, anywhere. The crowds are gone; a lone fisherman sits and waits. A brisk autumn day, leaves are falling and the last bit of summer waning. A ladybug, a wounded cricket, a lone flower, seeds being scattered by the wind and crimson leaves. They will all be back in the spring.
Basho put it best--
Dry cheerful cricket
chirping, keeps the autumn gay
Contemptuous of frost
