Wheel in the sky

The ferris wheel is a plethora of visual stimulation. When I see one, I almost can't look away. To me, these are some of the most beautiful structures ever constructed... and you can ride them!
I can still remember going to the Greater Baton Rouge State Fair as a little girl in the 80's and gazing up in awe at the huge wheel. It was always my favorite part of the fair, and the only ride I would go within 10 feet of (cough cough, still is). Oh, it was magnificent! The circles, the spokes, the lights... Like magic you were being lifted far away from all the chaos on the ground to a place in the sky where it was quiet and you could feel a cool breeze all around you. And it never lasted long enough, you had to try really hard to soak in as much goodness as you could before you got back to the ground. Once you were back on your feet it could be forever before you had the chance to relive that experience again..
A couple of weeks ago I rode the ferris wheel at Navy Pier in Chicago, IL. It was my first ferris wheel ride in over a decade. It took a little persuading from my sister-in-law and a lot of breathing exercises to calm my nerves, but being on top of that wheel felt like being on top of the world. Seeing the city of Chicago and Lake Michigan at that height was nothing short of spectacular.
Photographing the ferris wheel is my way of capturing that feeling of magic and wonder. Not to mention creating my own little paper treasure of geometric bliss.
