I've Been Published...Sort Of
27 Oct 2008
A few months back Kindopp's Printing called my office to see if we had any photo's they could use for their annual calendar that they use for gifts, promotions, etc. I get the call because I'm the keeper of the photos and I decide who gets to use them and what photos to send. We don't charge to use our photos, but companies are aware that a majority of our photos are from amateur photographers with a few professional shots that we have bought for us to use in anyway we see fit.
So I gathered up around 60 different low res photos from the library that fit what they are looking for and send them off to them to have a look at and see if any would work for their project. They would then send me back a list of what photos they would like to use, if any, and I send them the high res version of the photos.
Now, where do my photos come in you ask, well, since we are a non-profit company we don't have a lot of extra money to buy photos so all the staff from the office takes pictures when they are out and about the city, trail system or an event and if they are good enough we add them to the library. I'm the most avid shutterbug so I have tons that have been added (and that's not just cause I'm in charge of the photo library lol). I was very pleased that they chose five photos of mine from the 13 that they needed with no prompting or bribery from me. ;-) Three of the other shots they chose were ones we had bought from a professional last year to use in our Visitors Guide and to add to our library. He is quite good, so I feel honoured. Now, my name's not on the calendar anywhere, hence the sort of part of the title. But even so, I know that they used five of my pictures and the people at work know and of course anyone I tell. lol I have a few copies for myself and I have signed the pictures that are mine... hey, my Mom is really proud.
