'Skymart'

What city do you live in? What neighborhood?
Morristown, TN
What are some adjectives that describe your neighborhood?
small town and rural but it isn't Mayberry
How long have you lived there, and what brought you there?
my whole life with the exception of fifteen years in New York
What is your favorite thing about this place? Your least favorite?
The small town feel is what I like best but it is also what I like least. After living in New York for fifteen years it was hard to slow down.
Do you feel that you belong there?
I miss New York but I belong in Morristown.
What is the most common misconception about where you live?
That we are all a bunch of uneducated, uncultured rednecks.
What is a special fact about your city that you have to live there to know?
We were the first town in the US to have overhead sidewalks.
The 'Skymart' was completed in 1967 and was inspired by the raised walkways of Chester, England.
What aspect of your city do you secretly love?
It is a charming little town full of gossip but also full of love.
Anything else you'd like to add?
It was where my husband and I both grew up and met later as adults. There is a picture in a book about the area of a parade in 1967 to celebrate the grand opening of the 'Skymart' and I am marching in the parade as a Brownie. My husband who I had not met yet was above looking down on the parade. He says he was looking for me. He was a Cub Scout but his troop did not march. He instead had come as a spectator and he had ran ahead of his parents to watch from the center of the crosswalk above the street. He is in the middle of the picture and all you can see is his silhouette but even at age six he stood the way he does now.

What a nice story, yes it is slower than NYC, but I think it is awesome too.
