Amid the Midi
24 Nov 2008
Vacations can be spent in many different ways, but if you want a relaxing, stress-reducing week or two, away from crowds, phones, TV's etc., a cruise along one of France's many canals is for you. This past May was our second canal trip - the first one the year before on the Nivernais Canal.
This year we sailed the Canal du Midi between Homps and Portiranges in the southern section of France. Last year's trip prepared us in how to operate the boat and how to get through the many canals along the way. May is in the quieter season, so we did not pass many other boats along the way, making it even more relaxing.
For a photographer of any level, this is a true paradise. Not only are there beautiful water shots to be had, but also many quaint villages, churches, vineyards, farms and fields along the way, many framed by the thousands of plane trees planted along the banks of the canals. It's almost like one continuous slideshow!
So, I'll let my photos speak for themselves and I hope you enjoy!
