What city do you live in? What neighborhood?
I live in funky Fort Worth, Texas. Our neighborhood is nestled away from the highway and is one of the more interesting I have seen in the metroplex. The name of the neighborhood is Oakhurst and it has been voted neighborhood of the year. The neighbors are nice and the houses are old. Our home was built in 1924 at the start of the neighborhood.
What are some adjectives that describe your neighborhood?
It's scenic, quiet almost hipster area. It has really become popular with younger people lately. We have a park in our neighborhood and they do all kinds of events there for kids. They also do historic walks and have rea parties for the older ladies to chat up about how things used ot be in the neighborhood.
How long have you lived there, and what brought you there?
We have lived in this house for a few years now. Originally we moved here because most of our friends lived in the neighborhood. Now I appreciate the historic view of the area and also the landscaping. I haven't ever seen an area with as many houses as we have. As soon as you drive into the neighborood you are taken to a different place and a different time. As far as the city itself.... I have always lived here. I wouldn't ever live anywhere else.
What is your favorite thing about this place? Your least favorite?
My favorite thibg about this place... well I would have to say the houses. Older houses have so much character and so many stories to tell. There is a lot of history in this place and that is a very attractive thing. Everyone takes care of their houses. My least favorite thing would not really be about the neighborhood but keeping up with my own house! Fort Worth needs a bigger art scene, but we're getting there.
Do you feel that you belong there?
It's very homey and nice here. When new people move in the neighborhood commitee comes to welcome you to the neighborhood. So many people have lived here for a long time that they all know each other. The neighbors are always willing to help you out. People form Texas are some of the nicest people in the world. I did a poll... it's totally true.
What is the most common misconception about where you live?
Probably that is full of old people! It isn't!! The area has really attracted many new young people such as myself. Texas isn't all cowboys and spurs either. I don't own a horse, cowboy boots or chaps... wait maybe the chaps....
What is a special fact about your city that you have to live there to know?
We have a very cool under ground music scene. The city was originally called Panther City. I personally like that one better.
What aspect of your city do you secretly love?
I don't know if there are any secrets. Maybe all the old houses that have been abandoned.
