It's often heard that if people knew grandchildren were so much fun, they'd have had them first. Grandchildren are God's way of letting you get it right. Of second chances. Of spoiling. Of experiencing the fun and magic all over again.
This is Aubrey. She's our first grandchild. She and I first met on April 19, 2007 when she was 30 minutes old. She warms my heart, makes me weep, makes me laugh so hard I think I'll wet myself.
Watching her personality emerge over the past almost two years has been like opening a gift every day. Her sense of humor, her love for teasing, the way she shares her treasures, the excitement on her face when she masters something new, and her stubbornness, remind us how much fun children really are.
Aubrey spends every other Sat-Sun with us. When she's not here, sometimes I go into her bedroom and just smell that wonderful baby smell. And I smile. And I can't remember what we ever did before she was born.

My French professor was getting off topic in class the other day and she mentioned that her daughter is from korea. she adopted a 4 year old korean child and now she has grown up and now has a child of her own. she said that her granddaughter calls her "Oma" in keeping with the korean language. i thought of you when i heard that.
