Catching Rainbows

by Brandon Woelfel

Somewhere Over the Rainbow…

Rainy days make it perfect to catch a beautiful prism in the sky, but if you don’t want to get your feet wet, stay inside for some colorful fun!  There are many ways to achieve a rainbow effect indoors and we’ll show you how.  You’ve probably seen portraits that have dazzling colors bouncing off the subject, especially on Instagram.  One of the best image makers with the knack of magical colors is New York-based photographer Brandon Woelfel.  Brandon is in his early 20’s and already has over 2 million Instagram followers and has published his own photography book called Luminescence.

“Photography and art have a huge impact on the world,” Brandon says. “Communicating across various cultures, we’re able to break through language barriers and share our experiences through images. I think it’s important to note that if you truly love what you do, then achievements will follow. Working every day to realize that you can always improve will keep you ahead of the game.”

In the tutorial below Brandon breaks it down very simply on how to create stunning images with items you probably already have lying around the house.

Here is what you will need

1. CD

Yes, all those CD’s that you never listen to anymore, you now have a reason to bust them out again.  We wouldn’t blame you if you play a couple songs for nostalgia’s sake.

2. Prisms of different sizes and shapes

Now, if you don’t have any prisms lying around or a crystal chandelier that you could snatch one from.  Amazon has a vast selection to choose from in so many shapes and even colors.  Gotta love that two-day shipping!

3. Imagination

This component is an easy one, imagination is an artist’s best friend!  Once you get the hang of it, ideas will start surging right out of you!

Once you have created your masterpiece, make sure that you upload and submit your image to our Rainbow Photo Theme!!

Can’t wait to see your rainbow creations!!!

Now that you know how to be a rainbow maker, it’s time to catch your own!
