This is runoff from a lake near my house. Increasing amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere helps algae reproduce more quickly. It consumes all the oxygen in an environment and leaves none for any other aquatic animal life, creating a dead zone with only algae and plants. Every summer the Gulf has a dead zone of thousands of square miles near the mouth of the Mississippi. But let's not be too harsh on the algae; with the amount of toxic runoff coming from the Mississippi, i wouldn't want to live there anyway.
