This amazing plant is bare except for approximately one week a year. During that week, it goes through a cycle of bud, bloom, wither, and die. It reaches it's full potential at night, hence its name.

Great shot. Is that also known as a "Night-blooming Cereus", or am I mistaking it for another nocturnal plant?
