This was the first snow this rooster has ever seen as he hatched in May of this year after all the snow was gone. He doesn't like the snow. He sat there on the fence rail all day before heading back to the barn for the night. I tried to catch him so he could go back to the barn earlier but he kept running from me. After his one day in the snow he won't leave the barn if he sees there is snow on the ground. It's going to be a long winter for him luckily the barn is huge so he has lots of room indoors but I can't imagine him spending the entire winter indoors and not free-ranging like he loved to do without snow on the ground. I won't force him to go outside if he doesn't want to but he can go outside during the daytime if he would like. I go open the barn door every morning for the flock to come outside for some free-range time. A happy chicken is one that free-ranges and isn't locked up in a barn 24/7.
