This juvenile African elephant scared the life out of me. We had stopped to shoot a herd passing by about 300 meters away, when a soft rustling in the trees suddenly turned into a mildly irate animal the size of our truck. We sprang away from the side of the road, and took refuge in our vehicle, until this fellow retreated and gathered up some babies to protect them from us. We continued to shoot for a while, and eventually the juvenile decided we weren't a threat, and the began to play in a mud hole.

Elephants are amazing creatures, with a strong sense of community, and communal responsibility. The genuinely love one another, and express it by gathering, and protecting each other in groups. Ultimate strength in numbers.

A winner and a major fav. I fell in love with elephants during the years I lived in Thailand. They're such amazing creatures.
