I will do a twelve month series on our backyard, which is going to undergo some big changes this year. I want to share it with my JPG friends. First of all, the pool has lived its life. It is a one piece fiberglass pool. The gel coating has dissolved over time making it impossible for the pool cleaner to navigate around the pool. The sides of the fiberglass are caving in. We know that there are at least two underground water leaks. Where the cool deck behind me is sagging is the location of one leak and the other is across the pool, not in this photo. The water has turned very black and what amazed me is how reflective the black water is. So there is beauty in something that looks very bad at first glance. The freezes we had recently killed the tops of the plants, although they should recover from the roots in the spring. Today we are getting a survey of our property that is required to put a new pool in. The old pool will be drained, cut up and removed. I have loved my pool and will be sad to see it go. But, plans are in the works to have a new pool put in after this one is gone and part of the hole from this pool is filled. I am hoping to have a kidney shaped pool, we just have to wait to see what the survey says. The Purple Martin houses are new and part of the re-do of the backyard. Also, last year we had a patio cover built. By summer we will have a new yard and shade under the patio cover, which has a ceiling fan installed for a breeze.
