Grand Isle - July 5, 2010 - Although this was the most extensive set up we saw, it was not the only place clean-up was observed - We traveled the coast from Panama City, FL through New Orleans, and saw many stations with a similar set up. I have done the photo essay with multiple photos so you may be able to see what I saw.

In the Gulf Oil Spill photo essay.

Good image of this. I haven't seen it on the news, at least, not like this.

Those of us not living in or near the areas affected by this disaster really have no idea of the scope of it. I bet it was fascinating, amazing and sad to be able to get an up close view like this.

Thanks so much for documenting this! What a disaster! The possibility of this ever happening again should be eliminated. Deep sea drilling should be banned. Too many variables which cannot be controlled. BP opened Pandora's Box and couldn't get it closed. My feelings about BP are expressed in the link below. She in the song is BP. This guy was way before the Blues Brothers but I think they emulated his style.

You haven't lived until you've walked a sandy beach stepping on tar balls!

I don't know what's happening in this picture, but I do know that most of what BP is doing is mostly for show and has little or no effect on real environmental mitigation. The whole charade caused one charter boat captain to kill himself out of utter despair. Such a tragedy, and we're all to blame. Here's my take:

We in New Zealand can relate to this as last week the Rena berthed itself across a huge 2 mile rock and oil has now come ashore on the pristine beaches of the East Coast, covering birdlife. It has been so slow for 'those in charge' to put into action a plan to soak up the oil, etc.
Your essay and images show so much of what went on. thank you for sharing, Linda.
