From May through October of 2006, I spent my weekends and some weekdays exploring local Flea Markets, both permanent indoor type markets as well as outdoor “event” type markets. Seeing as I am a student who has a family and a modest income, this was an excellent way to explore a near-by “sub-culture” of American Pop Culture without having to spend thousands of dollars and drag everyone out of the country for four weeks. I feel that the sub-culture that I found locally was very rich in stories, especially regarding unique characters, vast props (each of which held their own stories), and an intricate setting in which such stories thrived and fostered unique lingo, interpretations, ultimately “quests.”

The role of protagonist existed within every vendor and customer, even onlookers such as myself who enjoyed observing conversations, participating in conversations, photographing and filming within the Flea Market subculture as I discovered it, buzzing and transforming.
