...The price of wisdom is above rubies...Job 28: 18

I just mentioned today that the hummingbirds haven't found their nectar yet and no sooner were the words out of my mouth when this little female zipped in...

It was pouring down rain for most of the afternoon but it had stopped for a tiny bit when I shot this picture. I'll try to get some better pictures of both the female and male when I am not trying to focus through rain drops on the window....We just put up a new pole stand to hang their feeder on and so far the squirrels are leaving it alone.

*Update: May 23rd. Something did discover the hummingbird feeder last night when we were sleeping and knocked the bottom of the container to the ground so that all of the contents leaked out...Lesson for me is to take the feeder in at night and don't fill it so full. I bought the stand thinking that nothing could shimmy up the skinny pole, especially after it got drenched with rain...Wrong again... Raccoons and squirrels are very clever and they can figure out how to disable anything when it comes to getting food that they like. The price of wisdom has gone up with the price of sugar water:)

A great shot, Andrea..........I'm having to fill up my feeder once a day already....they have been hungry little fellows :~)

Thank you everyone for your comments...Maurie, so far we have only seen
two hummingbirds..the female and the male...We don't usually get too many
at a time...Hopefully more hummingbirds will eat the sugar water in the future
instead of squirrels and raccoons who are also raiding our sunflowers seeds.
But I suppose they have to eat too.

"Elegance in Flight" - and not Korean Air :) Andrea, amazing capture. It never ceases to impress me how their flap rate offers them this uncanny ability to remain static in flight.

What a beautiful little lady hummer, Andrea!! Great shot with gorgeous colors and shutter speed!! Do you have bears where you live? The bears here are taking bird feeders, squirrel feeders, etc., anything they can drag off. I hang everything because of them. Anyway, you have a very gorgeous photo here, my friend!!!

Thank you everyone for your comments...Patty, no we don't have bears where we live but I hear they can be quite destructive ...I have even heard of them sometimes breaking into houses to find food...Since I have been taking the hummingbird feeder inside the house now before it gets dark I am no longer having the problem ...Whatever it was, came after it got dark to vandalize the hummingbird feeder before and I have a big hunch that it was a raccoon because the squirrels don't seem to be paying any attention to it in
    the day time.
