This photo essay is a series of portraits I made during two trips to parts of Africa and The Middle East in 1975 and 1978.

A beggar uses his children for sympathy.

Originally uploaded in May, I thought it would make an excellent closer for this essay.

    Those penetrating eyes, the little feet say, and the hooded beggar in the shadow say so much. Experienced similar scenes time and again throughout the years I lived in the Far East.
