I wanted this image to feel like a voyeuristic glimpse into a forbidden night scene found in the seedier reaches of a big city. While editing, I tried to emulate that old school rawness you could get from high ISO films pushed hot in the tank. Photographed in near darkness, using only 2 speed-lights and a reflector.

The title is taken from a Sandy Lam song called "Yè Tài Hēi" (夜太黑), roughly meaning "Night too/very dark" (dark" in the sense of wicked, evil, or sinister).

NOTE regarding the "Woman in Red" Theme: Her wardrobe was actually kind of red (close enough? LOL). I rendered it to a lighter than usual tonal value in my process of B&W conversion.
