I collect photographs of padlocks. I find it interesting that people value something enough to try and make it stay put, using a lock and hasp or a chain. But so many times, these things are forgotten. The locks and chains, left to the elements, corrode or rust and, while serving as a visual warning, are relatively useless at fending off much of anything. As an aside, I find it interesting that, in cemeteries, people are so much more likely to break or shoot out a beautiful window before they disturb a padlock. The padlock in this photo is relatively new. Evidently the people of Greensburg like to wander off with public benches. These were wrought iron, but there was a lock and chain on a plastic bench, too. The lock on that bench was one of the forgotten, corroded type. I will shoot that one next time. I just really liked the colors surrounding this lock.

Cutter Murdoch gave props (1 Oct 2013):

The spiralling cable makes this one for me, I love the oddity of it with the rest of the image.
