Three is a tough age to photograph unless you accept that the child is in charge. Logan was by far my most difficult shoot to date, and I've photographed a head on collision (multiple fatalities with suspicion of alcohol) in minus 20 degree weather at 2am for one of the papers I've worked for. This was particularly difficult because his mom had a very clear idea of how she wanted her son to pose, and what he should wear, etc. Unfortunately for mom, her son was three. THREE. His priorities were not in line with hers, and she became very stressed very quickly. Eventually she relaxed and allowed me to follow her little guy around while he explored this wonderful little New England nook on the Connecticut River. I got some great shots, and she learned that there is more to a photo session than simply sitting her child down on a riser against a fake backdrop and pushing a button.

Best of luck to those of you who photograph kids, and remember who's REALLY in charge ;)
