We elected Ronnie in 1980. Behind this wall worked 7,000 men for US Steel Corp. It is empty now. Ronnie signed a couple of pieces of paper that helped his buddies make money. One allowed them to headquarter off shore and escape taxes, another allowed them to declare bankruptcy and screw the workers out of their pensions. By 1986 this plant, and others, closed in our town. 11,000 jobs were lost in one year. For a few months Joliet, IL had the highest unemployment rate ever recorded in the history of our country (36%). It was the worst of times. It was caused by Ronald Reagan and his conservative Repug-Le-Thugs.
