The serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field...Genesis 3: 1

This guy showed up in our yard and he stuck his tongue out at me a few times but here he is just looking at me wondering if the camera is something for him to eat:) I remember crouching down to the snakes level of its head to shoot this picture and being a bit apprehensive when we were face to face....As far as I know a Pine Snake is harmless to humans unless it is stepped on or teased in any way..I have not seen a Pine Snake since I shot this picture in 2008 but we used to see many of them when I was child growing up and they were huge. This is the only snake I have ever photographed. I started out shooting two pictures farther back and then moved in closer for this one which turned out the best of the three. What caught my eye on this snake was his colors and I overcame my fear to capture its beauty with my camera. We think this one had just shed its skin, which is why the colors are so vibrant!

WOW! An impressive shot. Since I live in the city, I don't as many of these, although I did see one black snake crawl out of a flower bed a couple years ago.

Thank you Yeonju for your kind words...I am not sure who was more scared the snake or myself. I overcame my fear because I thought he was the most beautiful snake I had ever seen and I saw many pine snakes as a child growing up that would crawl up the pine trees at the home place.but none this pretty...Thank you all for the many comments faves, likes and views that I received on this photo and for the nomination and spotlight received earlier.
