At the last Slidell Art League meeting, I pulled an old poetry lesson out of a hat in a fun presentation for the members. Always before I toss out a magazine, I cut out titles or words or phrases that seem interesting. Then when someone tells me that they cannot even have a poetic thought, I challenge them to create a thought with what they find in a pile of my cut out words. Thus, they think, compose, and create a poetic thought from the words they choose. Here, Matt Monahan who is an arborist by trade and a wood carving artist by pleasure, envisions a life in retirement and art with only 4 cutouts of words and one of a random pink rose. Obviously, he was proud of his product!
