Some people think they're just
"Dumb Animals"
All they have are their basic instincts to survive and reproduce.

For those who believe that I so wish you could see what's happening in my home as I write this.
It's with near overwhelming sadness that we just had to have our beautiful beagle Autumn put to sleep.

We saved her from the dog pound 12 years ago and have never for a second had a single regret.
I like to think I'm pretty tough and can always keep my emotions in check but that's not so.

Watching my always loving loyal little friend in her final moments which couldn't have been more serene and peaceful tore me up.
I guess I have to admit I bawled like a little school girl with a scrapped knee

Her health had been failing and I've always said I would never allow her to suffer for one second.
Tuesday morning the day I had been dreading had come..
We have a wonderful vet a stones throw from my house.

She knew Autumn very well.
As soon as I called her she took her in right away.
Thank God for Dr.Kimberly
So one sweet little soul is gone and you bet it hurts like hell but I'm by no means alone feeling the pain and the sadness of our loss.

Since Tuesday night I have watched her friends search the house for her.
They loved Autumn dearly and deeply the loss.
My crazy old cat Mr.Patches was her best friend.

As Autumn was wearing down she would sleep in her favorite spot.
Mr.Patches would rub his big head along her body comforting her.
He would then lay down beside her.

I believe that beautiful friendship did more to comfort and relieve Autumn than any of the medication she was getting or anything I could do for her.
Her offspring Little Zelda misses her mom terribly.

For now she just keeps to herself trying to deal with her own very real emotions,
Carmel pictured here is also missing her friend.

She's been roaming from room to room with a sad look on her face even calling out with her own sad tones.
Watching these amazing loving sweet souls is both heartbreaking and beautiful.
They're going through the grieving process just as we are

We're blessed to have such beautiful beings in our lives.
They give so much expecting so little in return
Autumn had a great long life with us

She was spoiled rotten from day one.
She was always happy and well fed to say the least.
She never knew any pain or abuse and absolutely loved everybody.

She was a sweet harmless little soul who everybody loved and she will be very much missed by her family and her neighbors.
And by family I mean her friends.
Crazy Mr. Patches
Little Zelda and Mini Mini

If you've read this I thank you.
Please let me close my post by asking you and reminding you to advocate for animals.
They need your voice and your support.

When you hear of or see animal abuse or cruelty please do the right thing by stepping and reporting it.
Even better yet kick the piss out of the abuser

Thank you all

Profound tribute....many of us have felt the same pain of losing a beloved pet. Thank you for sharing your story. Peace to those who love Autumn best.

Just in tears and know that she is with my Johnny and all the critters that have crossed the 'Rainbow Bridge'. Your narrative is so heartfelt and this image of little Autumn is just perfect. God Bless you and your caring nature for these pets that we so love.

It sounds like your beagle had a wonderful home and your family gave her lots of loving care and attention..My husband's brother and his wife lost their Golden lab named Goldie who was 14 years old and had to be put to sleep in July because of failing health....and also my niece and her families 12 year old dog PigPen had a heart attack and died suddenly this past month and they have a new puppy now named Munchkins..Both families were heartbroken after having their dog so many years..Yes, these animals possess human traits and we get very attached to them...We've been through it over the years and I am sure I have cried a river of tears when they died..We now have a little dog named Tippi who is the joy of our life. She is 3 years old and we bought her after our 17 year old dog Koki died a few years before..We spoil Tippi but she spoils us just as much.with her love.

So sorry for the loss of little Autumn. I was probably 20 years ago that I had to have my dog Bear put to sleep. I have never had another pet since then. Not much I can say to help, the loss is deep but will wear eventually. Take care my friend.
