I remember how excited I was when I photographed several images of this magnificent wild bird on our feeder two year ago when that particular species of woodpeckers are not in the habit of coming to our bird feeder. This is another one of my collections and it shows a little bit of the suet she had been pecking at on the end of her beak.

The excitement was brought back to me again when I saw a Pileated Woodpecker close up in front of our house today by the broken down weeping willow tree. Unfortunately I was not expecting to see, nor prepared this time to photograph it... I heard it make a loud raucous noise while it quickly flew past me. I am hoping that by some miracle, since it is back in this area, it will return to our feeder again this month as she did on that rare occasion two years ago.

Thank you very much Ann Reece for your nomination on 1/4/2017! Very appreciated!!!

Thank you all for the comments....Today we had minus 2 below 0 degrees and the windows were frosted so if the Pileated Woodpecker did return to the feeder it would be hard to see:)
We managed to get out today despite the freezing weather and I dressed in layers from
head to toe! We got the car started.... got out of our driveway but we had to park the car at
the end of the long driveway on the way back because of it being slippery and walked the rest of the way home. Next week will be the charm as we are expecting temps of 30 degrees. Yay!
