A WATERBURY, CT. FIREFIGHTER TRAINS HIS HOSE ON A WORKING STRUCTURE FIRE. YOU ALWAYS GET AN ESTABLISHING SHOT BUT WHEN ARRIVING ON SCENE YOU GET RESCUES AND LOTS OF DRAMATIC PHOTOS. THEN I LIKE TO STEP BACK AND DO ESTABLISHING PHOTOS GOING WIDE OF COURSE AT ALL DIFFERENT ANGLES. FINALLY I WOULD PHOTOGRAPH FIREMEN INTENSE AT THEIR JOB TRYING TO PUT OUT THE FIRE SUCH AS THIS PHOTO WHICH I SHOT AT 3.2 WITH A 450, INCLUDES CROP FACTOR. THE PHOTO IS BALANCED AND GREAT COLOR HARMONY BETWEEN THE ORANGE HOSE AND BLUE HOSE AND THE FIREFIGHTER IN THE BACKGROUND GETS READY TO LAY DOWN MORE LINES. HE FILLS THE SCENE VERY NICELY. TAKE HIM AWAY AND YOU HAVE A LOT OF BLANK SPACE WHICH WILL DRAW THE VIEWER'S EYE TO IT AND THAT'S ONE THING YOU DON'T WANT. I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHED WELL OVER 800 FIRES ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES. WHEN GOING TO ANY SCENE, WHETHER IT BE A FIRE OR SHOOTING YOU MUST BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS BUT DON'T PUT YOUR TAIL CALL BETWEEN YOUR LEGS. IT'S GETTING CRAZIER BY THE DAY, SO MY ADVICE TO MY JPG FAMILY IS BEFORE OR AS YOUR DRIVING TO THE CALL, JUST ASK THE LORD JESUS CHRIST TO PUT HIS MIGHTY HEDGE OF PROTECTION AROUND YOU AND TO ALSO GIVE YOU AND EMERGENCY RESPONDERS TRAVELING MERCIES TO AND FROM THE CALL. I KNOW I'M PREACHING BUT THE LORD JESUS CHRIST HAS SAVED MY LIFE LITERALLY 115 TIMES! GOD IS REAL! AMEN & AMEN! THERE ARE FILM MAKERS AND WRITERS THAT WANT TO DO A FULL FLEDGED DOCUMENTARY ON MY LIFE. I'M THROWING THIS OUT TO ANY JPG MEMBER THAT RESPONDS FIRST. SHOULD YOU LIVE IN OR NEAR CT. I WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO BE INTERVIEWED AND PHOTOGRAPHED AND TAKE AS MUCH TIME AS YOU WANT. THE ONLY THING IS SHOULD YOU SELL THE STORY AND PHOTOS TO A MAGAZINE I WOULD MAKE IT A 50-50 CUT WHICH I FEEL IS VERY FAIR. LOVE YOU ALL AT JPG AND THE STAFF!!! (203) 575-1982 MIKE'S#
