Kinkaku-ji (金閣寺, "Temple of the Golden Pavilion").

Also known as Rokuon-ji (鹿苑寺, "Deer Garden Temple").

This is a famous Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan. The building's original purpose was to serve as the retirement residence of Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. Shogun (Hereditary military dictator) of the Muromachi period. Shortly after the Shogun's death and as indicated in his will, the gold-leaf-adorned building was converted into a Zen temple.

Kinkakuji is an impressive structure built overlooking a large pond.
