Geisha are highly skilled and professional entertainers who appear at high-end dinners, private banquets and special events to add a special touch to the proceedings. They are trained in the arts, dance, music and the art of communicating. Their goal is to be the 'perfect' entertainers.

Geisha can be found in many cities across Japan. But Kyoto remains the best and most prestigious place to experience geisha. It is the heart of Japan’s geisha world.

In Kyoto, fully-fledged geisha are respectfully called geiko (“gay-ko”). The younger (less trained) ladies are known as maiko (“my-ko”).
