This pedestrian tunnel under The Alameda in San Jose was closed for several years. Not a very safe place to get from one side of the road to the other; it was dark, damp, dreary, dirty and home to all sorts of vices (use your imagination) and smelled like pee. It was cleaned up, the walls painted with all kinds of feel-good messages and re-opened to the public. Its still dark, damp, dreary, dirty and smells like pee, but it has a purty new paint job on the walls. I don't know about the vices.

Great story about this tunnel. Hey they are trying to cheer it up a bit. Neat to learn about it and see it
