The woodpecker may say
It is freezing here today
Shivering in apple tree
Viewing everything to see
From his position high...
Kept gaze upon the sky
Maybe even spotted me...
Shooting pictures of he.

I am glad I was able to get within camera range of this Red Bellied Woodpecker while I was standing by the crab apple tree. I normally shoot pictures of him through the window but perhaps in colder weather he is not as skittish as he would be in warmer weather.

Best View in light box! Thank you!

Thank you so much Heather Mellon for nominating this photo 12/2/2018...So appreciated

Thank you all for your comments. I am not sure what happened to this young woodpeckers family, He comes alone to the feeder and haven't seen the two adults for awhile. I don't think he has any siblings. He seems to have a different personality than some of the species of his kind as for quite awhile he would only eat sunflower seeds but now has progressed to eating suet as well. Whereas others of his species will only eat suet....His head will eventually get more red color from the nape of his neck to reach his beak when he is an adult.

He looks so pensive. The branches and berries are the perfect frame for him. So lovely and one of your best, Andrea!
